Final Thoughts

Reflecting on this class, I can say that I really enjoyed taking it. At first, when I found out I had to take a writing class I expected the topics to be uninteresting. To my surprise, this class and the assignments have been anything but boring. I think that the topic of gender and stereotyping is perfect to base a writing class on because it allowed us to use our creativity. Also, this is a topic that affects us every day and therefore, it is one that we actually care about.

I believe that blogging was a great idea because it got us to think more deeply into the topic of the class and at the same time allowed us to voice our own opinions. Also, the fact that we had to respond to blogs was actually fun and interesting. I enjoyed seeing what other people had to say and also seeing what they had to say about my blogs and ideas.

Leaving this class, I think that I am definitely much more aware of how the media affects us. I have become much more observant when I watch commercials and TV shows and find myself picking out aspects of them that we have talked about in class. I think it is important that we are aware of these things so that we can avoid experiencing the negative effects of them. I also think it is crazy how almost every form of media contains what we have learned about and that I never really noticed or thought twice about any of it before this class.

Overall, I am really happy I took this class because I know a lot of my friends in junior writing classes who have been miserable all quarter. So, thanks Megan for making our class so intriguing. I have really learned a lot.

  1. I agree with you on the apprehensions you had coming into the class, as I had the same ones. I think that blogging was a really good way to express my thoughts, and I enjoyed reading others as well, it seems you felt the same way. What you said about being more aware of media is true as well. I see tons of things everyday that I relate back to this class. I also have noticed a lot of other readings that say what yep says as well.
